HOWRAH DIVISION COMPLETES INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADES IN 96 HOURS DURING 100-HOUR MEGA BLOCK ON DUMDUM-DANKUNI SECTION

In a remarkable achievement, Howrah Division successfully completed extensive infrastructure upgrades in just 96 hours (23.01.25 to 26.01.25) in shadow of the herculean 100-hour mega block undertaken by Sealdah Division on the Dumdum-Dankuni section from January 23 to January 27, 2025. This planned block was utilized to carry out crucial track, signaling, and overhead electrical upgrades, ensuring enhanced safety, efficiency, and reliability for passengers.

Highlights of the Completed Work in Howrah Division

Track Improvements

Over 3.5 kilometers of tracks were deep cleaned to strengthen the ballast (stone foundation), ensuring stability and durability.

Approximately 1.6 kilometers of old tracks and sleepers were replaced with stronger, upgraded materials for safer train operations.

Over 11 kilometers of tracks were realigned and leveled to improve ride comfort and operational efficiency.

Defective joints, crossings, and rails were replaced to eliminate potential safety risks.

Signaling System Upgrades

Modernized point machines, which guide trains between tracks, were installed at multiple locations to enhance operational accuracy.

Old signaling cables and junction boxes were replaced, ensuring better communication and reliability.

Advanced battery systems and control equipment were installed to guarantee uninterrupted signaling.

Overhead Electrical Modernization

Over 6 kilometers of outdated overhead wires were replaced with new, high-quality wires for seamless power supply to trains.

Replacement of 2756 meters of over-aged catenary wire and dismantling of old wires.

Replacement of 3320 meters of worn-out contact wires with associated dismantling.

Maintenance and repairs were carried out at over 100 locations to enhance the reliability of the electrical system.

Tree branches near electrified zones were trimmed to prevent disruptions.

Additional Works

Foot-over-bridges were painted and rust-proofed to maintain safety and structural integrity.

Fresh ballast (crushed stones) was unloaded at critical locations to reinforce track stability.
