Howrah Division Intensifies Plastic Ban Awareness at Rampurhat Junction station

In a strong push toward environmental sustainability, the Howrah Division of Eastern Railway has reinforced its commitment to eliminating plastic pollution. Under the leadership of Sanjeev Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), the division has imposed a stringent ban on the use of single-use plastic across all IRCTC-managed food stalls, One Station One Product (OSOP) outlets, and other licensed commercial establishments throughout the division.

This initiative aligns with Indian Railways nationwide vision to promote green practices and reduce plastic waste. As per the directive, all stall licensees must immediately cease the use of single-use plastic items, including plastic bags, cups, straws, and packaging materials. Any violations will lead to penalties and confiscation of banned items.

To ensure compliance, a special inspection and awareness drive was conducted on June 10, 2025, at Rampurhat Junction Railway Station by the Commercial Department of Howrah Division. The team carried out a detailed inspection of the station's commercial outlets, verified adherence to the plastic ban, and engaged vendors and staff in informative discussions about sustainable alternatives.

The Howrah Division urges all vendors, passengers, and stakeholders to support this vital environmental cause. Collective responsibility and proactive participation are key to building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for Indian Railways and the nation.
