Central Railway Successfully Executes Mega Block for 15-Coach Train Expansion at Thane.

Central Railway Mumbai Division operated a Mega Block on UP and DOWN Slow lines between Mulund railway station and Thane railway station from 11.00 hrs to 16.00 hrs on 22.02.2026 (Sunday).

During the block period, work related to extension of platform at Thane and remodelling of Thane Yard for accommodating 15-coach trains was carried out successfully.The workforce involved Officers, Supervisors and staff from Engineering, OHE, Signal & Telecommunication and other concerned departments.

The following major works were executed

Removal and laying of switches and culvert using crane machine

Siding work and tamping? Crossover laying and track shifting

Dismantling of existing crossover and laying of 80 metres of new track

Re-tensioning of contact wires and OHE maintenance

Shifting of point machines, signals and track circuits.

To enable smooth operations during the block

DOWN Slow services leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus from 10.04 hrs to 15.09 hrs were diverted on the DOWN Fast line between Mulund and Thane stations and further re-diverted on the DOWN Slow line at Thane.

UP Slow services leaving Kalyan Junction railway station from 10.36 hrs to 15.24 hrs were diverted on the UP Fast line between Thane and Mulund stations and were further re-diverted on the UP Slow line at Mulund.

This is part of 34 yard remodeling being carried out to increase the number of 15 car locals over CR.

The works are being done at multiple stations simultaneously, Thane being one of the major stations undergoing infrastructure upgrade.

Completion of these works will facilitate enhancement of existing train services and increase in 15-coach services on the section. The upgraded yard infrastructure will also enable stabling and smooth maintenance of 15-coach trains.

The Mega Block was operated following all prescribed safety precautions. Adequate ticket checking and security staff were deployed at stations to assist and guide passengers. Frequent announcements were made to minimise inconvenience.
