N. F. Railway (NFR) has been adopting several initiatives to improve the freight transportation system within the zone and to provide better customer interface. Among such initiatives, a few more stations have been opened for handling of both inward and outward goods traffic during the month of May, 2025 to facilitate smooth and feasible transportation for various goods by customers.

To improve customer interface and augment freight revenue, Forbesganj station under Katihar Division has been re-opened for handling both outward and inward rakes of foodgrains and maize traffic for a period of 06 months with effect from 5th May, 2025. Nischintapur station under Lumding Division has also been opened for handling inward parcel vans traffic with effect from 26th May, 2025. Similarly, NFR at other fronts of its divisions has continuously made dedicated efforts to improve BDU (Business Development Units) initiatives.

A total of 82 rakes of maize were booked from various stations under Katihar Division including Purnea, Ranipatra, Arariya, Kishanganj, Jalalgarh, Bathnaha, Forbesganj, Surja Kamal, Dalkhola and Katihar, fetching freight revenue of Rs. 39.24 Cr. In addition, under BDU efforts, 1603 wagons of stone chips were booked from several locations under Lumding Division to Jirania and associated stations, generating freight revenue of Rs. 6.30 Cr. during the month of May, 2025.
