Centenary Celebration of Howrah Division Commemorative Event Marks 100 Glorious Years

The Eastern Railway Howrah Division, a cornerstone of India railway heritage, proudly celebrated its centenary on Today with a special event at Platform 9 of Howrah Station To mark this historic occasion, the prestigious Howrah New Delhi Rajdhani Express was hauled by a specially decorated WAP7 electric locomotive, themed to honor 100 years of Howrah Division

The event was graced by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Howrah, along with other senior officers. Their presence underscored the importance of the momentous milestone, celebrating a century of exceptional service, growth, and transformation.

The centre of attraction, WAP7 electric locomotive number 37357 homed at the Electric Loco Shed, Howrah, showcased a stunning commemorative livery designed to reflect the division illustrious past and progressive journey. With a top speed of 140 kmph and a continuous power rating of 6,350 horsepower, the locomotive embodies strength, speed, and reliability values that mirror the spirit of the Howrah Division.

Adorning the locomotive were beautifully illustrated motifs depicting iconic moments and symbols from the division's century-long history. These included a tribute to Rabindranath Tagores travels in an Eastern Railway first-class coach, the majestic faade of Howrah Station, the historic station clock, and the Jubilee Bridge a marvel of engineering from a bygone era. Other highlights featured semaphore signals from the Katwa section, a nostalgic scene of a steam locomotive and EMU side by side at Howrah, and the flagging off of India first Rajdhani Express in 1969

These visual elements served not only as artistic representations but also as storytelling canvases, celebrating the cultural and operational milestones that have shaped the identity of Howrah Division since its establishment in 1925. The division legacy of innovation, resilience, and nation-building was aptly honored through this unique initiative.
