EASTERN RAILWAY ENHANCING SAFETY & CONNECTIVITY: LIMITED HEIGHT SUBWAY (LHS) SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED IN KATWA AHMADPUR SECTION

Kolkata As part of its continued commitment to enhancing passenger safety, operational efficiency, and infrastructure development, Eastern Railway Howrah Division has successfully completed a Limited Height Subway (LHS) to eliminate Level Crossing (LC) Gate No. 14/C/E in the Katwa-Ahmadpur section. This was achieved through the planned insertion of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) boxes and base slabs, ensuring a safer and more seamless transport network.

The critical infrastructure work was carried out on March 7, 2025, with a traffic and power block from 14:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs. A total of 6 RCC box segments and 5 RCC base slabs were inserted to replace the level crossing. Due to efficient planning and execution, the work was successfully completed ahead of schedule at 19:00 hrs, facilitating the early resumption of train services.

Once the Limited Height Subway is operational, the LC gate will be permanently closed. This initiative marks a significant step toward eliminating level crossings, enhancing safety, and ensuring uninterrupted train movement and smoother road traffic flow. The successful completion of this project reflects Eastern Railway dedication to modernizing railway infrastructure and improving travel experiences. Such initiatives align with its mission to create a safer, more efficient, and passenger-friendly transportation network.
