Jammu Tawi Railway Station undergoes Major Upgradation

Northern Railway is undertaking a significant modernization project at Jammu Tawi railway station, aiming to enhance passenger experience, safety, improved connectivity and operational efficiency. In future, Jammu Tawi Railway station shall be better equipped to handle train operations for Jammu & Kashmir valley.

The commissioning of the remodelled Jammu Tawi yard is scheduled for March 6, 2025.

Yard remodeling work is almost complete, Non interlocking work shall also be completed soon. Yard remodeling work was a challenging task in executing station redevelopment work of Jammu Tawi Station, once completed, station redevelopment will also gain pace.

The estimated cost of this major upgradation project is Rs. 450 crores.

The Jammu Tawi yard remodelling project focuses on:

Platform Expansion from 3 Nos. presently to 7 Nos.:

Adding four new platforms equipped with state-of-the-art ballastless track technology.

Ensuring smoother operations and more hygiene at platforms.

Presently, there are 3 platforms, after upgradation, there will be 7 platforms.

Each platform will have washable aprons which will contribute to cleaner environment.

Enhanced Passenger Amenities:

Construction of two new 12-meter wide foot overbridges for convenient access.

Development of a 72-meter-wide air concourse connecting all seven platforms, providing seamless movement between platforms and improved passenger flow.

Construction of a new 4,500 sqm second entry station building on the Narwal side.

Upgradation of the main station building to a 15,600 sqm facility with modern amenities.

Relocation of the signal control room to the new building.

Increased Capacity:

Washing pit lines will be increased from 3 to 5 resulting in capacity augmentation to handle more trains.

Four more stabling lines will increase capacity of JammuTawi station to operate more trains.

Shunting of trains will be more convenient.

Parcel Siding shall also be functional after this upgradation.

Modernizing Track Layout:

Replacing outdated mechanical interlocking systems with advanced electronic interlocking for improved safety and efficiency.This modernization will significantly enhance passenger comfort and safety, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to the overall development of the region.
