Minister for Railways Approves Road Over Bridge at Malahar–Samsi under Katihar Division

Northeast Frontier Railway has marked a major milestone in infrastructure development with the Minister for Railways according approval to the proposal for replacement of Level Crossing Gate No. 101 at km 198/8 9 between Malahar Halt and Samsi stations under Katihar Division with a modern Road Over Bridge (ROB). The ministerial approval paves the way for swift execution of the project, which will be undertaken at a revised estimated cost of Rs.177 crore with 100% Railway funding. This important initiative underscores the Railways? steadfast commitment to strengthening infrastructure, enhancing public convenience and improving overall connectivity in the region.

The level crossing is located in a prominent area with substantial vehicular movement. As per the July 2024 traffic census, the Traffic Vehicle Units (TVU) at the location stand at 4,21,001, highlighting the importance of grade separation for improved traffic management and safety. In line with local requirements and traffic patterns, the project includes construction of a Road Over Bridge at the existing level crossing to serve local traffic, along with an additional ROB at a diversion location to efficiently manage city and through traffic and ensure seamless movement.

On completion of the project, road and rail safety will be significantly enhanced. Traffic movement will be seamless and connectivity in the Malahar Samsi section in Malda district of West Bengal under Katihar Division will see substantial improvement. The project will directly benefit students, daily commuters and local traders by ensuring easier access to educational institutions, workplaces and markets. It will also support economic growth and development across the states, reflecting Northeast Frontier Railway continued focus on undertaking diverse infrastructure initiatives aimed at modernisation and passenger centric development.
