52 Reforms in 52 Weeks: A unique employee driven initiative by Accounts Department, Northern Railway

Employee Driven Training Modules for Systematic Reforms

To realise the vision of Mission Karmayogi of Prime Minister, a three day capacity building program titled प्रशिक्षण से दक्षता की ओर (A first of its kind Intensive Capacity Building Program through exchange of ideas, best practices and interactive training sessions across ranks) was organised by Accounts Department of Northern Railway from 15th, 16th& 19thJanuary, 2026. The closing ceremony organised in National Rail Museum on 20th January 2026 was graced by the top leadership of Accounts Department in the Railway Board and the top management of Northern Railways.

The program structure was inspired by the vision of 52 Reforms in 52 Weeks of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. 52 Reforms in 52 Weeks aims for systemic improvements in efficiency, governance, and service delivery while accelerating AI and advanced tech use and Exploring innovative methods for talent management and skill development of employees.This training was based on employee driven reform approach aimed to encourage micro innovations, employee work processes and promote best practices among Accounts personnel conducted over six thematic modules each chaired by Principal Head of Department ensured cross functional participation meaningful discussions and collaborative brain storming on day to day problem areas faced across various sections of the Accounts Department of the Northern Railways. The program saw the enthusiastic participation of over 450 railway employees.A detailed summary of the outcomes and key ideas for reforms and micro innovations that emerged from the training sessions was made by Sanjay Upreti, Principal Financial Advisor Northern Railway. Further he touched on a key aspect of stress management and showcased a module of enhancing peak performance through heartfulness meditation. Member Finance, Railway Board Aparna Garg in her message termed this as a progressive step of Northern Railway specially on account of the strong emphasis on IT-based applications, user-based inputs, and institutionalizing feedback from staff.. She emphasised that training is at the core of productivity and the same is meaningful only when it translates into capability, confidence, and competence at the workplace.General Manager, Northern Railway A. K. Verma while appreciating this initiative under the ambit of 52 reforms in 52 weeks for employee driven system reforms, stressed the need for micro-innovations, necessity of similar dedicated programs involving large spectrum of work force and stated that it is important to take these learnings forward.Additional Member, Budget, Railway Board Manjusha Jain, brought out the nuances of efficient working especially in technology driven department like Accounts and Finances.

The program also spoke of key reform ideas in current automation processes futuristic assessment of usage of artificial intelligence, requirements of specialised training for Accounts and Finance and the need for inter-departmental synergy.
