Vivek Kumar Gupta takes over additional charge as General Manager, Central Railway
Vivek Kumar Gupta, General Manager, Western Railway, has taken over additional charge as General Manager, Central Railway after the unfortunate demise of General Manager,Vijay Kumar, with effect from 11th November 2025.An officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) of the 1988 batch,Gupta is presently serving as General Manager, Western Railway, a position he assumed on 11th July 2025 Prior to this, he was the Managing Director of the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the organization entrusted with the implementation of India?s first Bullet Train Project.

Gupta has held several significant positions during his illustrious career on Indian Railways. As Principal Executive Director (Gati-Shakti) at the Railway Board, Ministry of Railways, he was responsible for the integrated functioning of seven key departments Civil (Works, Project Monitoring & Station Development), Electrical (RE), Signal & Telecommunication, Traffic, Finance, Planning, and Economic Directorates ? to ensure cohesive planning and execution of major railway projects under the PM Gati-Shakti initiative.

He has also served in various prestigious capacities on both Western and Central Railways, including Chief Administrative Officer (Construction), Chief Track Engineer, Chief Bridge Engineer, and Divisional Railway Manager (DRM). In these roles, Shri Gupta oversaw crucial infrastructure projects such as new line construction, gauge conversion, doubling and multi-tracking works, track construction, traffic facilities, and bridge maintenance.

During his tenure as Chief Engineer at Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC),Gupta played a pivotal role in the coordination and implementation of MUTP I, II & III projects with a combined project value of approximately ₹20,000 crore, and led preparatory work for the ₹34,000 crore MUTP 3A project. His responsibilities included extensive liaison with agencies such as the World Bank, AIIB, MMRDA, CIDCO, and the Government of Maharashtra for project planning and execution.

As Divisional Railway Manager, Bhusaval Division (April 2019 August 2021), he ensured efficient operations with a focus on safety, reliability, infrastructure enhancement, staff welfare, customer satisfaction, and fiscal prudence through effective expenditure control and revenue generation measures.

With his vast experience in railway operations, infrastructure management, and project execution,Vivek Kumar Gupta is widely respected among railway officers and staff. Under his visionary leadership, Central Railway is poised to achieve greater milestones in operational excellence and passenger service.
