President Police Medal for Distinguished Service Awarded to Amiya Nandan Sinha, IG-cum-PCSC/Eastern Railway

Amiya Nandan Sinha, Inspector General-cum-Principal Chief Security Commissioner, Eastern Railway, Kolkata, has been conferred with the prestigious President Police Medal for Distinguished Service for the year 2025.The medal was presented to Sinha b Minister of Railways,Ashwini Vaishnaw, on the occasion of the 41st Raising Day of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) held on 13th October 2025 at the RPF Zonal Training Centre, Valsad, Gujarat.

Sinha was earlier conferred with Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2012 and the National Award for Outstanding Service by Hon'ble Minister of Railways in 2009.

Sinha has served in various positions of authority in the RPF , since his selection through UPSC in 1989. Over his three-decade long service,Sinha has served at various Divisions/Zones of the Indian Railways - Lumding & Tinsukia in Assam, Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Kharagpur in West Bengal, Hyderabad & Secunderabad in Telangana, Bangalore in Karnataka, and as Additional Chief Security Commissioner in Chennai, Inspector General-cum-Principal Chief Security Commissioner in Konkan Railwa, Maharashtra, IG-cum-Principal Chief Security Commissioner/Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, IG-cum-Principal Chief Security Commissioner/ Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

Sinha has undertaken several innovative and path-breaking initiatives to bring higher professionalism to the Force, improve passenger safety and enhance security outlook of the RPF. In 2024, Shri Sinha led the Force in diligently and effectively handling the Mahakumbh Mela at Prayagraj in 2024.

Previously, as Deputy CSC/Secunderabad, he initiated several innovative measures for improving RPF Training Centre/Moula-Ali in recognition of which he was awarded National Award for Outstanding Service in 2009. During this period, he also led the Force during the Telangana Agitation at Secunderabad Division and ensured smooth running of trains without any major incident of violence.

Sinha has actively contributed to ensuring security of Railway network while serving in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas in Chhattisgarh and Assam. In 1994, while he was posted as Divisional Head in Tinsukia Division, Assam,Sinha deftly handled the ULFA threat, which included life-threats to senior railway officials, and courageously led the force during combing operations at Dimapur Railwav station in Nagaland, where more than 250 rounds of ammunition were recovered.

For the sustained exemplary and distinguished service to the RPF,Sinha was awarded the President Police Medal for Distinguished Service for the Year 2025.
